Studies with Erasmus Programme in academic year 2012/2013

In the next academic year 2012/2013, seven students from the Institute of Physics representing all three grades of learning will go to other European Union universities under the Erasmus student exchange programme.

Gravity weapon

Gravity is a universal force, with which all objects with mass interact. However, in everyday life we don’t see the train engines ripping out suitcases from the hands of travelers passing by or the shoes jumping on our feet as soon as we approach them. Why?

Science festival 3-4 June 2012 at the Institute of Physics

As every year, you are warmly invited to science festival which takes place on a Zielona Góra promenade, traditionally on Sunday, and at the Institute of Physics on Monday.

Scientific Research

Faculty of Physics and Astronomy became the beneficiary of the ministerial program Regional Initiative of Excellence

The aim of the contest of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the Regional Excellence Initiative program was to support particular groups of sciences in twelve regions of Poland. The selection of groups made by the Ministry was based on the so-called regional smart specializations, i.e. areas of the economy and science that have been identified as priorities for the development of a given region.

Long-lived heaviest high-K isomers?

The super-heavy elements which have all been manufactured in the laboratory, are highly unstable systems with extremely low production cross sections. Due to this the creation of new ones is very difficult. On the other hand, not all super-heavy isotopes of known super-heavy elements have been produced yet, and it is not excluded that among them “hide” some surprisingly long-lived one, either in its ground states or excited isomeric states. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to search for such nuclei and for such long-lived configurations, where its enhanced stability may result from the K-isomerism phenomenon which is based mainly on the (partial) conservation of the K-quantum numbers.

12th Workshop on Current Problems in Physics 2019 (WCPP'19)

We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the 12th Workshop on Current Problems in Physics 2019 (WCPP'19), which will be held on October 14-17, 2018, in Zielona Góra, Poland (http://www.if.uz.zgora.pl/~wcpp/wcpp19)

Prof. Cao Long Van doktorem honoris causa Uniwersytetu w Vinh

W dniu 10 grudnia 2018 na Uniwersytecie w Vinh odbyła się wyjątkowa uroczystość. Uczelnia po raz pierwszy w swojej historii nadała doktorat honoris causa naszemu pracownikowi profesorowi Cao Long Van. W uroczystości wzięli udział prof. Marek Trippenbach z Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego pełniący rolę promotora doktoratu honorowego, prof. Dinh Xuan Khoa – rektor Uniwersytetu w Vinh (były doktorant prof. Cao Long Van), prorektorzy, kierownicy jednostek, wykładowcy oraz studenci.

Collection of Interviews by Marek Oramus, (among others) with our colleague

We are pleased to inform that the collection of short interviews with polish scientists has just been published. All conversations were led by well-known writer and publicist Marek Oramus and the entire collection entitled On Heaven and Earth was published by the publishing house Fronda. Each of the 27 chapters introduces exciting topics of contemporary science through conversation with some of the polish leading researchers. As Marek Oramus says: the idea of these interviews was to show what the world is like. Most interviews appeared over the years 2009-2016, mainly in “Wiedza i Życie”, and also in “Plus Minus” (the weekend edition of “Rzeczpospolita”) and Fantastyka.
For obvious reasons, we suggest the interview No. 6 (in the part “On the Earth”) entitled "Huge Construction Site" that is partially available on the "Wiedza i Życie" magazine page.
