On 4 December, another edition of the Quantum Pizza event took place, an activity that has now become a permanent part of our institute’s calendar. Once again, the meeting demonstrated that quantum phenomena can be explored in an atmosphere of informal conversation, integration, and a shared meal. The event brought together Erasmus+ students from Spain, Nigeria, and Brazil, as well as Polish students.
A special highlight of this year’s edition was the presence of Mr Candelario, a high-school teacher from Spain, who - apart from participating in the scientific discussion- shared an element of Spanish culinary tradition by preparing tortilla de patata.
During the scientific session, participants examined one of the fundamental models of quantum physics: a particle in an infinite potential well. The discussion focused primarily on the discrete structure of the energy levels and the mathematical nature of the Hamiltonian’s eigenstates. The students analysed the origin of complete energy quantization in this system and considered its implications for the interpretation of the wave function.
